Man Dies in Two-Car Collision on 5 Freeway
WOODLAND, CA (August 17, 2021) — A man died in a two-car accident on the 5 Freeway near Kentucky Avenue Sunday night.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the fatal crash happened around 7:45 p.m. For unknown reasons, an Elk Grove woman driving northbound in a Toyota Camry crossed over the grassy middle divider. Subsequently, her Toyota collided head-on with a southbound Chevy pickup shuttling three people.
As a result of the impact, the Chevy burst into flames. Fortunately, a 51-year-old woman and a 14-year-old boy were able to escape the truck with assistance. However, the 68-year-old Sacramento man at the wheel of the Chevy was unable and died at the scene. His name has been withheld by the Yolo County Coroner’s Office pending notification of next of kin.
Not long after, paramedics rushed the Elk Grove woman to a hospital with major injuries. At this time, authorities have not confirmed the ultimate cause of the accident. However, if anyone has more information on this crash, please contact the CHP.
