Pedestrian Fatally Struck by Police and Civilian Vehicles on 5 Freeway in Atwater Village
ATWATER VILLAGE, CA (August 18, 2021) – One person was killed in a pedestrian accident on 5 Freeway in Atwater Village early Wednesday morning.
The accident happened just before 3:00 a.m. on August 18, near Hyperion Avenue. According to the California Highway Patrol, a police vehicle and a civilian vehicle struck the pedestrian in unknown circumstances.
First responders found the pedestrian suffering from severe injuries. Despite life-saving measures, the victim died at the scene.
Officers issued a SigAlert in the area, closing three southbound lanes while they investigated the fatality, resulting in a backup of traffic even before the morning commute underway.
At this time, the identity of the victim was not immediately available.
