One Person Dead in Multi-Car Crash on 580 Freeway near Dutton Avenue [Oakland, CA]

One Person Dies in Oakland Multi-Car Accident on 580 Freeway

 
OAKLAND, CA (September 16, 2021) — One person died in a multi-car crash on the 580 Freeway near Dutton Avenue Tuesday night.
 
According to authorities, the fatal multi-vehicle collision happened around 9:00 p.m. For unknown reasons, a crash unfolded and sent one car to the center divider and another one to the slow lane. Subsequently, nearly half a dozen other vehicles approaching the scene either struck a vehicle or the debris that was strewn across the highway.
 
Shortly after, Oakland fire department firefighters responded and transported one victim to a hospital where that person died en route. Meanwhile, paramedics tended to several other patients with varying injuries.
 
At this time, authorities have no clue as to what caused the accident. However, any witnesses with information should contact the California Highway Patrol.
