Officer Hurt in DUI Accident on Highway 101
VENTURA, CA (October 6, 2021) — An officer suffered minor injuries in a DUI crash on Highway 101 near Seaward Avenue Monday evening.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident happened around 5:50 p.m. For DUI-related reasons, a driver in a 2021 Jeep Wrangler tried using the southbound right shoulder to pass slower-moving traffic. Subsequently, the Jeep struck an officer’s patrol vehicle even after the officer turned on his overhead emergency lights to warn him.
Following the initial impact, the Jeep overturned and debris from the crash struck a third car nearby.
Soon after, paramedics arrived and tended to the officer who suffered minor injuries. Meanwhile, investigators arrested the 35-year-old Irvine man for driving while impaired.
