Pedestrian Dies after Struck by Multiple Vehicles on 680 Freeway in San Jose
SAN JOSE, CA (October 7, 2021) – One person died in a pedestrian hit-and-run on 680 Freeway in San Jose Wednesday morning.
The accident happened around 5:25 a.m. on October 6, just south of Jackson Avenue. According to the California Highway Patrol, the pedestrian was walking in the area when a vehicle struck them. While lying down in a northbound lane of the freeway, the victim was hit by two more cars.
The driver of the first vehicle did not stop after the crash. The other drivers remained on scene and cooperated with authorities.
First responders pronounced the pedestrian dead at the scene. The victim’s identity has been withheld pending notification of next of kin and will be released by the Santa Clara County Coroner’s Office.
Crews closed three freeway lanes for about four hours while they cleared the wreckage.
The fatal crash remains under investigation.
