Person Fatally Struck by Train near Leucadia Oaks Park and Vulcan Avenue
LEUCADIA, CA (October 22, 2021) – A pedestrian was struck and killed by a train near Leucadia Oaks Park, Wednesday evening.
According to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department, the incident happened on October 20, at about 6:30 p.m. For reasons still under investigation, a northbound Coaster hit the person on the tracks between Coast Highway 101 and Vulcan Avenue.
Emergency crews pronounced the pedestrian dead at the scene. Authorities withheld the age and identity of the victim, pending notification of next of kin.
The North County Transit District temporarily shut down rail service in the area. As per reports, officials used buses to transport the affected train passengers.
Sheriffs continue to investigate the cause of the fatal incident.
