Pedestrian Dies after Struck by Vehicle on Highway 58 in Bakersfield

 
BAKERSFIELD (April 29, 2024) – A man was hit and killed by a vehicle on Highway 58 in southeast Bakersfield Saturday afternoon on April 27.
 
The fatal crash happened around 1:15 p.m. in the eastbound lanes of the highway at Union Avenue. According to the California Highway Patrol, the male pedestrian was running southbound across all lanes of the eastbound highway.
 
A 24-year-old Bakersfield woman was driving a 2010 Honda SUV at about 55 mph. She was slowing and taking the Union Avenue off-ramp when the pedestrian continued running southbound across the right shoulder of eastbound Highway 58.
 
The pedestrian entered the eastbound off-ramp lanes, directly into the path of the Honda and was struck.
 
The impact caused the pedestrian fatal injuries and died at the scene.
 
Meanwhile, the driver of the Honda was unharmed.

Alcohol or drugs do not appear to be a factor in this crash. An investigation into this fatality is ongoing.
