Small Plane Crashes on Lily Avenue in El Cajon Injuring Pilot

 
EL CAJON, CA (April 30, 2024) – A pilot was hospitalized in a plane crash at Lily Avenue and Clarke Drive in El Cajon Sunday night on April 28.
 
The crash happened around 6:27p.m. near Gillespie Field. According to the Heartland Fire & Rescue, the small plane, Bellanca Super Viking, crashed on a sidewalk near a power line and just feet away from homes.
 
Before crashing, the plane was headed for Gillespie Field, about 2.5 miles away. Officials said the plane reportedly encountered engine problems and clipped power lines as it descended.
 
The pilot told authorities the plane also lost oil pressure before the crash.
 
First responders took the pilot to Sharp Memorial Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
 
No other injuries were reported, and no residential structures were damaged.
 
At this time, the crash is still under investigation.
