1 Dead, Several Injured in DUI Multi-Vehicle Crash on Highway 145 in Madera County
MADERA COUNTY, CA (August 20, 2024) — One person died in a DUI multi-car accident on Highway 145 near Road 29.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the fatal crash happened around 11:15 p.m. Sunday. For DUI reasons, a 39-year-old man in a westbound Dodge Charger crossed over the double yellow lines on Highway 145. Subsequently, it collided with a westbound Ford 150, driven by a 61-year-old man from Madera.
As a result, a westbound Nissan Rogue, driven by an 85-year-old Marina man crashed into the Dodge after not seeing it due to its color and lights disabled. As the Nissan spun out, it struck an eastbound Toyota Prius, driven by a 30-year-old woman. Finally, a westbound 2020 Ram pickup, driven by a 66-year-old man, plowed into the Dodge at 60 miles per hour.
Moments later, paramedics took the Ford driver to Community Regional Medical Center where he passed away. Officials did not release his name. All others suffered moderate injuries and were taken to a hospital while police arrested the Dodge driver for DUI.
