58-Year-Old James Hurd Sr. Identified as Driver Killed in Long Beach Crash on 405 Freeway

 
LONG BEACH, CA (August 28, 2024) – Authorities identified 58-year-old James Larea Hurd, Sr. of Carson as the driver killed in a chain-reaction crash on 405 Freeway, Monday morning.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident happened on August 26, at about 9:50 a.m.
 
A southbound 2010 Honda Fit reportedly failed to slow down while approaching stopped traffic due to high speed. The Honda then rear-ended a vehicle, causing a chain reaction that pushed forward into three more vehicles near Lakewood Boulevard.
 
Emergency crews pronounced the Honda driver, Hurd, dead at the scene.
 
As per reports, a child sustained minor injuries but did not need hospitalization.
 
CHP continues to investigate the cause of the fatal accident. Officers will release additional information once it becomes available.
