61-Year-Old Bicyclist Dies after Crash with SUV in Irvine Earlier This Month

 
IRVINE, CA (August 24, 2024) – Scott Andrew Morris was killed in a bicycle accident in Irvine on August 1.
 
The fatal accident happened around 1:20 p.m. on 405 Freeway at MacArthur Boulevard. According to the Irvine Police Department, Morris was riding the bike northbound on MacArthur Boulevard in the right turn lane of the 405 Freeway on-ramp. For unknown reasons, he suddenly turned into a Chevrolet Suburban as it was traveling in the lane next to him.
 
Morris’ left handlebar struck the Suburban’s front passenger door and mirror, causing him to be ejected from his bike.
 
As a result, Morris suffered moderate head injuries. He was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, police said.
 
Paramedics rushed Morris to a hospital, where he died Thursday on August 22. He was a 61-year-old Irvine resident.
 
Meanwhile, the driver of the SUV stayed on scene and cooperated with police.
