Driver Killed in Possible DUI Crash on Franklin Road in Merced County
MERCED COUNTY, CA (September 30, 2024) — A man died after his car crashed into a pole in a suspected DUI accident on Franklin Road near Highway 140.
Merced California Highway Patrol officers believe a pickup driver was under the influence during the 6:30 p.m. Saturday crash. The driver heading southbound on Franklin Road made an unsafe turn. Subsequently, his vehicle struck a wooden power pole and power lines nearby.
After the accident, officers and paramedics responded to the scene to find the victim not wearing his seatbelt. In addition, they discovered alcohol containers in his car, leading them to believe that DUI factored into the cause.
Because he struck power lines, the power went out in several areas.
