Man Killed, Dylan Lossing Arrested in DUI Crash on Highway 101 [Santa Maria, CA]

DUI Crash on Highway 101 in Santa Maria Leaves 30-Year-Old Man Dead

 
SANTA MARIA, CA (October 14, 2024) – A man was killed in a DUI crash on Highway 101 in Santa Maria early Sunday morning on October 13.
 
The fatal crash happened around 2:00 a.m. just north of Highway 166. According to the California Highway Patrol, 20-year-old Orcutt resident Dylan River Lossing was speeding on the highway when he failed to stop as he approached the halted traffic.
 
Lossing then rear-ended a 2012 Nissan Altima, driven by a 30-year-old Santa Maria man.
 
The Nissan was stopped behind a black GMC Sierra, driven by 53-year-old Leticia Fernandez of Bakersfield, that was also stopped.
 
The impact of the crash pushed the Nissan forward into the Sierra.
 
Lossing’s car continued to the dirt median, colliding with a Chrysler Pacifica, driven by 61-year-old Trisha Norris of Santa Maria.

Responding paramedics took the male driver of the Nissan to Marian Regional Medical Center, where the man succumbed to his injuries.

The victim’s name was not immediately available.

All the other people involved were treated at the scene.

Officers arrested Lossing for a felony DUI and gross vehicular manslaughter. They took him into custody at the San Luis Obispo County Jail, with bail set at $100,000.
