Maria Arroyo-Lozada Dies, Roberto Xitlama Arrested in DUI 2-Vehicle Crash at Collins Avenue and Tustin Street

 
ORANGE, CA (October 1, 2024) — Maria Arroyo-Lozada died in a DUI 2-car accident at Collins Avenue and Tustin Street.
 
According to the Orange Police Department, the deadly two-vehicle crash happened around 8:00 p.m. Sunday. For DUI reasons, 18-year-old Roberto Noe Monfil Xitlama blew through a red traffic light in a Chevrolet Equinox. Subsequently, his southbound Chevy collided with a westbound Toyota RAV4, carrying four people.
 
Soon after, emergency personnel responded and found a 13-year-old girl in the backseat of the RAV4 in critical condition. Another 13-year-old girl — believed to be a friend of the teen — as well as the Toyota RAV4 driver, suffered serious to critical injuries and were taken to a hospital.
 
The mother of one of the 13-year-old girls — identified as 40-year-old Maria Minerva Arroyo-Lozada — died in the crash. Her boyfriend was the RAV4 driver.
 
Loved ones have created a GoFundMe page for the mother, sister, aunt and cousin, whom many deeply cherished.
 
After the accident, authorities arrested Xitlama for DUI and booked him into the Orange County Jail for gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated. He had a blood alcohol level of more than double the legal limit.
