Two-Vehicle Accident on 5 Freeway in Camp Pendleton Kills One and Injures Three Others
CAMP PENDLETON, CA (October 24, 2024) – One person was killed in a two-vehicle accident on 5 Freeway just north of Camp Pendleton early Wednesday morning on October 21.
The fatal accident a little after 1:30 a.m. along the southbound freeway near the military base. According to the California Highway Patrol, an SUV and a sedan collided for unknown reasons, causing both to veer off the roadway. The vehicles then hit a tractor trailer that was parked on the right shoulder.
First responders found the occupants of both vehicles trapped in the wreckage.
Despite life-saving efforts, one person in the SUV was pronounced dead at the scene. Two of the SUV’s occupants and the sole occupant of the sedan were taken to the hospital with unspecified injuries.
The cause of the crash and factors involved remain under investigation.
