Driver Dead in Merced After Train Strikes Car near Cunningham Road
MERCED, CA (October 18, 2024) — A woman died after a train hit her car near Cunningham Road and Santa Fe Avenue.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the deadly train accident happened around 8:00 a.m. Thursday. For an unknown reason, a 61-year-old woman driving a 2007 Toyota SUV tried navigating around the activated crossing arms. Subsequently, an oncoming westbound train struck the Toyota SUV, pushing it about 100 feet off the road and into a dirt field.
The woman who was not wearing a seat belt passed away in the crash. Officers had no information surrounding the factors leading to the accident. However, they are investigating.
