19-Year-Old Driver Killed, Alberto Bustamante Hospitalized after Semi-Truck Crash on Highway 111 near Frink Road
IMPERIAL COUNTY, CA (November 7, 2024) – A 19-year-old male from Bombay Beach died in a semi-truck accident on Highway 111, Monday evening.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident happened on November 4, at about 6:09 p.m. For reasons still under investigation, a Chrysler veered to the left, crossed the dirt center median, and entered the opposing northbound lanes.
There, the Chrysler collided head-on with a 2014 Freight liner truck tractor with an attached trailer near Frink Road.
Emergency crews pronounced the Chrysler driver dead at the scene. Authorities withheld his identity, pending notification of next of kin.
Meanwhile, the semi-truck driver, identified as 33-year-old Alberto Bustamante, sustained minor injuries.
CHP continues to investigate the cause of the fatal accident. Officers ask anyone with information to contact Officer Arturo Platero at (760) 312-1810.
