67-Year-Old Marianne Casey Dies, Anthony Hanzal Charged in Police Pursuit, Crash at La Palma Avenue and Moody Street

 
LA PALMA, CA (December 20, 2024) — Marianne Casey died when a suspect chased by police crashed into her vehicle at La Palma Avenue and Moody Street.
 
According to reports, the fatal incident happened around 12:40 p.m. Wednesday when a detective witnessed a theft at an Albertsons grocery store near West Melbourne Avenue. Subsequently, a chase unfolded when the suspect entered a white Nissan Rogue and refused to stop for police. The Nissan became involved in a non-injury hit-and-run collision in Fullerton. Police officers then lost sight of the vehicle when the driver exited Knox Avenue.
 
Moments later, La Palma Police took over the pursuit, but the chase ended when the suspect crashed into a blue BMW at La Palma Avenue and Moody Street.
 
Tragically, 67-year-old Marianne Mildred Casey, the BMW driver from La Palma, died in the hapless incident. Following the crash, officers arrested 43-year-old Anthony Hanzal, of Anaheim, who suffered unknown injuries. He remained behind bars on Thursday at Orange County Jail. At least one man and a woman were also injured in the accident.
