Pedestrian Dies after Struck by Wrong-Way DUI Driver on Marguerite Parkway in Mission Viejo

 
MISSION VIEJO, CA (January 2, 2025) – A woman was killed in a wrong-way DUI crash on Marguerite Parkway in Mission Viejo early Wednesday morning on January 1.
 
The fatal crash happened around 1:40 a.m. at the intersection with Pueblonuevo Drive. According to the Orange County Sheriff’s Department, a Chevrolet Malibu was traveling the wrong way when it collided head-on with a Toyota Camry.
 
Responding paramedics rushed the female driver of the Camry to a local hospital, where the woman was declared dead.
 
Authorities only described the victim as someone in her 60s. They withheld her identity pending notification of next of kin.
 
Meanwhile, the driver and a passenger of the Malibu suffered unspecified injuries.
 
Deputies identified the Malibu driver as 26-year-old Geraldine Caicedo-Perez. They arrested and booked her into the Orange County Jail on suspicion of DUI and gross vehicular manslaughter.
