Man Dead in Motorcycle Accident on 5 Freeway near Oceanside

OCEANSIDE, CA (January 19, 2021) — A crash on 5 Freeway near Las Pulgas Canyon Road left a male motorcyclist dead Saturday afternoon.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash happened in the northbound lanes of the freeway near Camp Pendleton.

A preliminary investigation showed that a man was operating a 2010 Yamaha R6. For reasons still unknown, the motorcycle veered to the left and off the roadway, and then it slammed into a metal fence.

Aside from the CHP, personnel of the Camp Pendleton Fire Department and the United States Marine Corps Camp Pendleton Provost Marshal’s Office also responded to the incident.

Officials said the motorcyclist passed away at the scene. They, however, have not disclosed his name and age.

Meanwhile, it was not immediately clear whether there was another vehicle involved in the crash. A witness told the CHP officers that they spotted a blue sedan in the center divider. They said the car drove away while the motorcycle was down on the street. However, the same witness admitted to not seeing the crash.

Meantime, this fatal crash remains under investigation. Anyone with information should call the CHP Oceanside office at 760-643-3400.

We offer our sincerest sympathies to the family and friends of the victim.
