Police Arrest Julian Vitoria for Attempted Homicide after Hit-and-Run Crash in Merced, Elderly Couple Injured

 
MERCED, CA (October 11, 2021) – Police arrested Julian Vitoria after hit-and-run crash Thursday afternoon in Merced.
 
The crash happened just after 12:30 p.m. on October 7, in the 3200 block of Parsons Avenue near Teak Avenue and Chenoweth Elementary School. According to the Merced County Sheriff’s Office, the 24-year-old man was driving a blue car when he slammed into two elderly pedestrians who were walking on the sidewalk.
 
After the crash, Vitoria drove away.
 
Paramedics rushed the victims, believed to be in their 80s, to Mercy Medical Center with moderate to major injuries.
 
Officers tracked Vitoria down and detained him a short time later. He has since been arrested and booked into the Merced County jail on attempted homicide charges.
 
Police are still working to determine why Vitoria targeted the couple. They asked anyone with information about the incident to contact Merced police Officer Jeff Gonzales at 209-388-7712.
