72-Year-Old Man Dies, Car Crashes Into Jackknifed Van on Highway 371 near Cahuilla Creek Bridge [Temecula, CA]

Man Killed, Vehicle Crashes Into Jackknifed Van on Highway 371 in Temecula

 
TEMECULA, CA (July 29, 2024) — A 72-year-old man died after his car crashed into a jackknifed van on Highway 371 near Cahuilla Creek Bridge.
 
The California Highway Patrol responded to the major injury accident around 9:42 p.m. on July 18. For an unknown reason, a driver of a 2019 Ford Transit van hauling a 2003 Carso Fun Runner travel trailer jackknifed and blocked Highway 371, north of the bridge. However, a 72-year-old Orange County man driving a 2024 Toyota Camry at about 45 mph did not see the vehicle. Subsequently, the Toyota Camry struck the trailer’s left rear corner head-on.
 
Soon after, paramedics airlifted the Toyota driver to Desert Regional Medical Center in critical condition and transported his 66-year-old female passenger to Wildomar’s Inland Valley Hospital with minor injuries.
 
Tragically, the unidentified Orange County man died Tuesday at approximately 8:40 p.m.
 
Authorities do not believe alcohol was a factor in this accident. However, they are looking further into this crash.
