Driver Fatally Struck by Vehicles on 8 Freeway in San Diego
SAN DIEGO, CA (August 2, 2024) — A driver was hit and killed by several cars on the 8 Freeway near College Avenue.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the fatal pedestrian accident happened around 11:54 p.m. Thursday. For an unknown reason, a 27-year-old man driving a Honda Pilot pulled over to the right shoulder and exited the car. However, he failed to put the vehicle in Park, and the car began traveling unoccupied towards the traffic lanes. Upon noticing this, the driver tried to hop back in, but an oncoming Tesla 3 and Hyundai Sonata struck him.
Due to the crash, the unidentified Honda Pilot driver passed away at the scene. After the accident, all drivers pulled over and waited for the authorities.
Authorities have yet to determine if DUI factored into the crash since a toxicology report is currently being processed. If anyone has more information, please call the CHP San Diego area at 858-293-6000.
