2 Dead in Rollover DUI Crash on Cottonwood Road in Bakersfield
BAKERSFIELD, CA (October 11, 2024) — Two men died in a DUI high-speed rollover accident on Cottonwood Road near Pacheco Road.
According to Bakersfield Police officers, the single-car crash happened around 5:00 p.m. Tuesday. While impaired, a driver of a Dodge pickup truck was traveling at a high rate of speed and using the dirt shoulder of the road to pass other drivers. Subsequently, the pickup driver lost control and the truck overturned.
At some point during the accident, the passenger and driver were ejected from the vehicle and suffered severe injuries. Subsequently, paramedics and officers responded and confirmed one fatality at the scene. Paramedics took the second victim to a hospital where that man died.
Following an investigation, authorities determined unsafe speed and impairment contributed to the crash.
The Kern County Coroner’s Office has not yet identified the passenger or driver who died.
