Denise Barkus Dies in Hit-and-Run Pedestrian Crash on Imperial Highway near Parmelee Avenue
SOUTH LOS ANGELES, CA (October 11, 2024) — Denise Barkus died in a hit-and-run pedestrian accident on Imperial Highway near Parmalee Avenue.
According to the Los Angeles Police Department, the hit-and-run happened around 8:50 p.m. Monday. For an unknown reason, an easstbound driver in a two-tone silver or white sedan struck a 62-year-old woman. The woman who was outside of a marked crosswalk fell to the ground where she was abandoned by the driver who did not pull over to help. Subsequently, officers responded to the Watts neighborhood of South Los Angeles and found no presence of the driver.
Tragically, the Los Angeles woman — Denise Barkus — passed away at the scene. At this time, city officials are offering a standing reward of up to $50,000 to anyone who can help investigators arrest or identify the suspect.
