Head-On Accident on Highway 126 in Fillmore Leaves 2 People Dead
FILLMORE, CA (December 30, 2024) – Two people died in a head-on accident on Highway 126 east of Fillmore Tuesday afternoon on December 24.
The fatal accident happened shortly after 2:20 p.m. near Haines Canyon Road, roughly a half mile east of Fillmore Fish Hatchery. According to the California Highway Patrol, a 2024 Volvo SUV was heading westbound when it veered across the center median into oncoming traffic.
The Volvo then struck head-on into a black 2019 Lexus that was traveling eastbound.
First responders found two people in the Lexus unresponsive.
Despite life-saving efforts, the two patients died at the scene. Authorities only described them as a 39-year-old man and a 31-year-old woman.
The driver of the Volvo, a 44-year-old Oak View man, was flown by helicopter to Ventura County Medical Center with critical injuries.
Two passengers in the Volvo, a 35-year-old man and a 71-year-old woman, suffered moderate injuries. A ground ambulance took them to Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital.
Two dogs also died in the crash, one in each vehicle. A third dog in the Volvo survived and was picked up by a family member.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation. Authorities urged witnesses or anyone with further information to call the CHP’s Moorpark office at 805-553-0800.
